Top 3 Labor Apps – Pros and Cons

Pregnancy

When you are pregnant, there are so many things to keep track of and worry about, that any help with the whole process is likely much appreciated.

Pregnancy and labor apps can help you track your pregnancy along the way, storing important information on your phone as it happens.

There are a lot of different apps to choose from to assist with your pregnancy, from do-everything apps to those that focus strictly on labor and contractions.

Gone are the days of having to use a stopwatch, pen, and paper to measure the length between contractions, and then having to try to figure out the pattern on your own.

Here are 3 apps that can be incredibly helpful during your pregnancy and labor:

  • Full Term
  • Baby Center
  • Pregnancy ++

Full Term

This app specializes in the labor process, allowing you to track your contractions right from the start by simply clicking a button. Full Term will record and track how long each contraction lasts, and the duration between each contraction.

The Full Term app will then recognize patterns forming based on these durations. For instance, once your contractions are continuing for three minutes, with only one minute intervals in between, it is time to head to the hospital!

Pros: free, easy to use, convenient, tracks the entire labor process for you

Plus, your labor history is automatically saved, so you don’t have to worry about it being deleted if your phone loses power.

Cons: May be a bit slow to synch with other devices in some cases, but very few negatives to report here

Baby Center

Baby Center is a more comprehensive app that will assist you all through your pregnancy, and even provides information about what to expect afterwards. It features a birthing class section that has informational videos and articles on everything from labor to breastfeeding, including real stories from women that have been through it.

Baby Center guides you through the whole process of establishing a birth plan, and provides a contraction timer to help track the progression.

Pros: Free, large online community for sharing, this app is thorough and extensive

Cons: Design may not be as user friendly as some of the other apps

Pregnancy ++

This is another all-inclusive app that tracks pregnancy all the way through. It will provide you with daily tips, as well as giving weekly updates about your pregnancy.

It allows you to follow the growth of your baby in real time, providing authentic images and descriptions of the baby’s size and progress.

It also features a contraction timer for labor.

Pros: Loaded with features, beautifully designed

Cons: The free app does not include all the features (you can pay a small fee to upgrade), not much of an online community

Alternatives

A couple other interesting alternatives are the Natural Birth and Acupressure app.

The Natural Birth App provides a lot of information about the entire pregnancy process. It talks about the 3 stages of labor, delivery, and offers helpful recovery tips. This app is very interactive, taking you through each step until the umbilical cord is cut, to give you a real idea of what to expect when the time comes.

The Acupressure for Natural Pain Relief in Labor App gives tips on how to manage pain naturally during childbirth, using acupressure techniques.

Find one that works best for you.  These apps were made to ease worry and make the process of labour as simple as possible.
