What to Do After Embryo Transfer: Supporting Implantation and Staying Grounded

Acupuncture, Fertility, Infertility

By Jasmine Sufi R.TCMP

The embryo transfer is complete. After weeks of preparation and anticipation, many patients enter what is often called the two-week wait.

This period can bring excitement, hope, and anxiety. While implantation ultimately depends on many factors, there are natural ways you can support your body during this time.

At AcuToronto, we often guide patients through this stage so they feel supported, calm, and confident in their care.

Focus on Rest and Gentle Care

After embryo transfer, your body benefits most from a calm and supportive environment. You don’t need strict bed rest, but it is helpful to focus on gentle, restorative activities.

Helpful practices include:

  • light walking
  • staying hydrated
  • nourishing meals
  • good sleep
  • avoiding intense exercise
  • surrounding yourself with people and things you enjoy

Think of this time as an opportunity to care for yourself.

Support Circulation to the Uterus

Healthy blood flow to the uterus helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to the endometrial lining. This is one reason many fertility specialists recommend acupuncture treatments around the time of embryo transfer.

Acupuncture may help:

  • support uterine blood flow
  • relax the nervous system
  • reduce stress hormones
  • encourage a calm physiological state that supports implantation

Many patients have treatments during the days following their transfer to continue supporting the pregnancy.

Managing the Emotional Side of the Two-Week Wait

The waiting period can be emotionally challenging. It’s natural to notice every sensation or wonder what is happening inside your body.

Some helpful strategies include:

  • limiting excessive symptom searching online
  • practicing breathing or mindfulness
  • staying connected with supportive people
  • scheduling calming activities

Acupuncture treatments during this time often provide a quiet space where patients can relax and release some of the emotional tension that builds during the wait. In addition patients are able to access a team of professionals that can help answer pressing questions in a way that not only supports you but is accurate to your unique health needs. Many patients find the knowledge and expertise during this time to be incredibly reassuring and helpful.

Trusting Your Body

Your body has been carefully supported through fertility treatment, and now it’s time to allow it to do what it is designed to do.

Continuing Support During the Two-Week Wait

At AcuToronto, we often see patients during the days following embryo transfer to help support the pregnancy, reduce stress response, and calm anxieties while provide a calming environment.

Fertility journeys can feel isolating at times. Having a supportive care team alongside you can make a meaningful difference.
