We’ve all heard of “spring cleaning” for a thorough deep clean in our homes. But as the season changes to cooler weather consider incorporating “fall cleaning” into your household ritual. During winter months we will be spending more time indoors, heaters on and winter flu and cold bugs begin to circulate. I’m sure we are all doing a great job disinfecting already! Essential oils can come in handy when you’re cleaning to help deodorize nasty odors in your bathroom, kitchen and even your kids shoes! Many essential oils have antiseptic properties so these are great in room sprays to provide some degree of protection from microbes and give your home a lovely refreshing smell! Here are some recipes you can easily use in your homes.
Stinky Shoes:
- A drop of peppermint oil on a cotton ball and leave it in your kid’s shoes
Bathroom Deodorize Blend:
- Create the following blend:
- 5 drops of Bergamot
- 10 drops of Lavender
- 5 drops of Cinnamon
- 10 drops of Lemon
- 10 drops Citronella
- Once you blend the above in a glass amber bottle with a dropper, put a couple of drops of this blend inside the toile paper roll
DIY Essential Oil Room Mister Spray Recipe for 4oz bottle:
- 6 drops of Lemon
- 10 drops of Bergamot
- 2 drop of Cinnamon
- 2 drop of Clary Sage
- 10 drops of Geranium
- Blend the above essential oils in a 4oz amber glass spray bottle
- Fill ½ way of the bottle with unscented witch hazel and shake
- Fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water
- Shake the bottle again and spritz away in your living room!
Bedroom Bed and Linen Deodorizer for 4oz spray bottle:
- 25-30 drops of lavender essential oil
- Add 1 Tablespoon of unscencted witch hazel and shake
- Fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water and shake
- Spray on your bed linens, mattress and pillow
- This is not only calming, smells great but helps to keep the bed bugs away
