Pain is a subjective experience that results in response to tissue injury or damage.  Pain at any level is debilitating and often results in a significant decline in an individual’s quality of life, often accompanied by anxiety, fatigue, irritability, insomnia and depression.

Acupuncture is increasingly being used to help manage pain and has been successful in treating conditions such as:

Arthritis

Chronic abdominal and pelvic pain

Chronic headaches and migraines

Fibromyalgia

Neck and back pain

Acupuncture is thought to operate by increasing the release of naturally occurring opioids and endorphins, these are the body’s natural pain killers.  There is also an alteration of neurotransmitter release and increased circulation helping to relax muscles, decrease inflammation, reducing pain.

Treatment plans will vary based on the duration and severity of the condition and can range from once a week to 2-3 times per week.  In stubborn cases combining herbs with acupuncture treatments can result in more significant results.
