There are many drugs, creams, herbs and cleansers all claiming to rid you of what seems to be an uncontrollable skin problem.
I’ve been an acne sufferer for most of my life, going through chronic bouts of acne about every 3-4 years. As a teen I used countless topical and prescription antibiotics that helped for a period of time but not permanently. It took me a while to understand acne and use the medicine I practice to correct my acne from the inside out.
Acne is an internal condition, something that is hereditary and is due to one’s constitution. The body is not functioning as efficiently as it could and as a result is producing a build up in the body that rises and erupts on the skin as acne.
There are many types of acne that exist:
Small papules that look like small, red, inflamed tender bumps
Pustules: inflamed, and appears as a red circle with a white or yellow center.
Nodules: Nodules are large, hard bumps under the skin's surface. Scarring is common. nodular acne consists of acne spots which are much larger, can be quite painful and can sometimes last for months.
Cysts: An acne cyst can appear similar to a nodule, but is pus-filled, and has been described as having a diameter of 5mm or more across. They can be painful.
The quality of the acne is important to determine the diagnosis according to Chinese medicine. A combination of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine can be used to relieve all of the above types of acne.
